Stratford Middle Schools Take Home 21 Awards at the Synopsys Science and Technology Championship!
Congratulations to Orchita Chakraborty and Cody Shen Chen for Placing 1st in the Physical Science and Engineering Category and Advancing to the Broadcom MASTERS Championship in October
Last week Stratford Middle School students presented their Science Fair projects at the annual Synopsys Sillicon Valley Science and Technology Competition. This year’s championship took place virtually with over 1000 projects presented and judged via videoconference. Stratford took home an impressive 21 total awards.
Notably, our San Jose Middle School received an Outstanding School Award , and Shannon Deza from our Sunnyvale Raynor Middle School was recognized as an Outstanding Teacher. Sunnyvale Raynor 6th grade student, Orchita Chakraborty, took 1st place in the Physical Science and Engineering category for her design of an oil boom with magnets that will efficiently clean up oil spills containing magnetized nanoparticles. Cody Shen Chen from San Jose Middle School also took 1st place in the Physical Science and Engineering category with his Voice To American Sign Language design that provides an easy way to communicate with the deaf. Both Orchita and Cody will go to the California Science and Engineering Fair and received a nomination to compete in the prestigious Broadcom MASTERS.
“The annual Synopsys Championship showcases students in the Santa Clara County of California who will become our future scientists, technology experts, engineers, and mathematicians. Through this annual competition, hundreds of the area’s students are challenged to go beyond their classroom studies to do independent project-based research. They work independently or in teams to address questions in the fields of Computer Science, Environmental Science, Medicine & Health, Chemistry, Biology, and a half dozen other categories.” To learn more about the Synopsys Championship, visit https://science-fair.org/.
We salute the ingenuity and effort of all of our hard working student scientists! Please see our complete list of winners, by campus, below.
